Hagerstown Personal Trainer Needs Some iTunes…
Posted by: | CommentsHagerstown personal trainer Chad Smith has a diverse music mix of all time faves on his Android phone workout playlist. Recently, he’s determined it’s time for a major music update. Here’s where you can help..
I love the music I love. I dig hip-hop, country, jazz, blues, funk, R+B, hard rock, metal, and even some club music. My workout usually revolves around tunes that put me in a pretty aggressive state of mind. When i’m in my heaviest training sessions, the right playlist can mean the difference between a good workout, and a few new PR’s.
First and foremost, I always pay homage to Pantera by playing “Walk” as soon as I touch the barbell. For a long time, I didn’t really get to much into any of Pantera’s other songs, because I didn’t believe it could get anymore kick-ass than this one song. I was wrong. Sooo wrong. When I actually listened to the entire “Vulgar Display of Power” album, I felt like the guy on the album cover (with less facefull of fist). Then I messed around and got “Cowboys From Hell” Happy to say that many more Pantera songs inhabit my playlist.
After that, I usually inject some Metallica into the game. Any Metallica is good Metallica in my opinion, but the “Metallica” album, or some people call it the “Black” album gets the most plays, with some tracks from “Master of Puppets”, “Ride The Lightning”, and “And Justice For All”. I could easily fill my playlist with nothing but Metallica, but I probably wouldn’t be the friendliest guy to talk to after a while…
Then I’ll transition into some hip hop. Gotta play some DMX. “X Gonna Give It To Ya” is a good start. Move on over to some”Ruff Riders Anthem”, the slide over to “X Is Comin For Ya”, and I just busted through a couple of great sets. X was the hardest act in the rap game for a few short years back in the day. Had real potential, if he hadn’t have gone all emo/crazy/crackhead on us in the last days of his career. It’s his fault 50 Cent got to be famous…thanks for that, X.
Staying in the hip hop genre, I might go back in time a little bit to some old school 80′s classics like Eric B and Rakim. “Microphone Fiend” gets it done for me, along with “Paid In Full”, and “Follow The Leader”. Rakim was ahead of his time with the mic skills, nobody should ever call Lil’ Wayne the greatest MC until they can honestly say he is better than Rakim. Or HE can. EPMD was one of the best acts to come out of the late 80′s/early 90′s. “So What Cha Sayin?” is still a banger, I don’t care what anybody says. Plus songs like “You gots To Chill”, and “Crossover” get the job done too. This was the prime era for hip hop, before it all went to hell in the 2000′s, so I keep it alive on the playlist.
Here’s the deal. I need new music! I don’t have time to shop around for new tunes, so I’m going to emloy you as my music manager. Make me some playlists that reflect my musical interests, and I will not only be greatful, I’m going to give you a copy of “Turbulence Training” creator Craig Ballentyne’s “Turbulence Training 4 Week Bodyweight Training” fitness program FREE! This has a retail value 0f $29, but it’s yours free if you hook me up with a good playlist. Help a brotha out, leave your playlist suggestions in the comment box below…

Hagerstown Personal Trainer, Youtube and Fat Kids in Georgia
Posted by: | CommentsIt’s no secret that Hagerstown personal trainer Chad Smith is frustrated with the childhood obesity epidemic in the United States. So when he saw a series of controversial commercials made to help bring awareness to the condition of obese kids in Georgia, he was compelled to share.
In the fight against childhood obesity, we can’t use “kid gloves”. The condition is whoely brought on by parental neglect, as these children have no control over what is being fed to them on a daily basis. Obese kids turn into obese adults, with diabetes, heart disease, depression, and shortened life span almost guaranteed. More than that, obese children face daily ridicule, taunting, and teasing, which can destroy self-confidence, and severely hinder future career success in their chosen career path, on top of the fact that obese Americans (especially obese women) earn less and get fewer promotions. Where is the outrage? Why are we still allowing this cycle to continue? Why aren’t we doing more?
I came across a series of tv spots promoting obesity awareness in Georgia, from www.stopchildhoodobesity.com that were short, but powerful. I want you to watch this one, entitled “Question”, feel the emotion in the kids voice and tell me if what we neeed in more “fat acceptance” like what the NAAFA suggests, or a total overhaul of the national culture of “PC” to take this this thing head on.

Hagerstown Personal Trainer Wants to Know…
Posted by: | CommentsHagerstown Personal Trainer Chad Smith likes fan mail. But a recent piece of fan mail made him think about what it’s really going to take to make his city take their health seriously. Read on for more…
I got a nice little mention in the Herald Mail newspaper “Mail Call” last week, and it made me raise an eyebrow in thought. That is rare as the messages rarely make me do anything but laugh. This time around though, was different.
Check this out:
“This is a thank you to Chad Smith, his articles he always writes about keeping fit. Thank you Chad for letting our community know what people have to do-especially this last articleabout parentskeeping their kids off the couch and eating right. But parents themselves need to get themselves off the couch and eat right. Then we won’t have so many overweight people and so many people who are diabetic here in Hagerstown. I don’t understand why people just can’t take care of themselves, do what’s right.”
-Smithsburg
First, thanks for the nice note about the column. Second, I’ve asked myself the same question.
I don’t get it it. Maybe you can help me out. What’s your take on this? What do people like me in the fitness community need to do to be more effective at getting more people to adopt the fitness lifestyle?
